Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Reports
Ft Lauderdale Offshore Fishing Report- December 2008
December has arrived and the entire fleet is thinking cold fronts, north
current and increasing Sailfish opportunities for Ft. Lauderdale charter
fishing. The tail end of November saw a strong Sailfish showing.
A large (or possibly several) group of Sailfish wandered back and forth
offshore of south Florida and gave us repeated days of good Sailfish action.
Changing weather conditions and reversing currents had these fish
backtracking several times, and the result was numerous bites both live
baiting and trolling.
We
look for continued Sailfish opportunities as we move through the month but
there will be few days able to match those final November flurries. The
severity of some of the latest cold fronts as they work their way down to us
could make for an early Winter push of sails into our area again, but they
are scattered right now.
Swordfish fishing was about as good as it gets late in November but
went quickly downhill on the 28th thru the beginning of Dec. High sea
conditions on the Swordfish grounds have put a damper on these trips. The
weekend forecast is a bit better and we plan to go for a night trip this
Saturday.
Kingfish have been totally erratic. One trip we crush them and then we find
ourselves struggling a day or two later to even catch a few. Snapper are
biting well. Dolphin and Wahoo remain scattered (covering ground by trolling
has been a good choice). There are some Blue Marlin offshore. Some Hammerhead
Sharks taken in 300-500 feet of water on deep fished baits, but some are
also tailing on top when conditions are right.
