Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Reports
Ft Lauderdale Offshore Fishing Report- October 2008
October brings several transitional situations into our offshore fishing.
Baitfish continue to migrate along our beaches in ever increasing numbers.
We are of course always on the look-out for these moving schools of bait.
Many are on the surface and easily seen, especially if threatened by game
fish. Other groups of bait are picked on our fathometers as they pass
beneath us, and these schools can also be accompanied by
predators which show up on the screen typically along the outside edges or
immediate vicinity of the bait. Any bait fish school presents the
possibility of game fish action, and October signals an increase in these
encounters. Most of these baitfish are on the move and on the Marlin
My Darlin we focus our efforts directly upon or in the depths and within the
areas that we find these schools(color changes, water temperature and water
color changes, etc.)It always pays to "match the hatch" in these situations
if at all possible.
Kingfish will continue to be an available species. Dolphin(Mai-Mai, Dorado)
will be moving through and heading South.
With the baitfish schools we sometimes see them in a mere 30 feet of water.
Blackfin Tuna
will be seen for the most part in 300-500 feet on once again migrating bait.
Sharks can be encountered
anywhere, but their numbers will be fewer and most are smaller than later
arrivals Sailfish will be around but in erratic numbers ,and we will
primarily see them on the windier days. Swordfishing can be excellent
on both day and night trips ,weather permitting
