Ft Lauderdale Offshore Fishing Report- September 2009

September is here and so are our afternoon showers. Almost every afternoon is going to have a possibility for a fast moving shower or two. If you don't want to dodge these scattered storms you might plan your Ft. Lauderdale charter fishing trip early in the day. Later in the day many afternoon storms will clear the area and the weather will be pleasant and sunny again. typical conditions for September

Kingfishing will remain fairly strong on most days. The ravenous schools of Little Tunny will begin to thin out, but will still be here in good numbers into the month. We will expect to see a Sailfish on about every other fishing charter, and these fish will be incidental bites(not the main targeted species).SailfishIf we target them with live bait some days will be tough as they are scattered in various depths on most days. Blackfin Tuna will be available off the edge of the reefs, but not guaranteed. The good numbers of Amberjacks will be a reason to hit the deep wrecks. Swordfishing should remain good. The daytime Swordfishing has been excellent. Wahoo will be available throughout September and a good target species just off the edge.

Spanish sardines are here now in large numbers. Ballyhoo are still thick in deeper water. They will begin to move inshore as the water cools. Scattered finger Mullet schools will be here shortly. Huge schools of larger Mullet will reach the Ft Lauderdale fishing area near the end of the month. Most of these fish will hug the beach unless rough surf gets too much sand mixed into the water, then they will move offshore to cleaner conditions. Herring are in route in big numbers. Pilchards on the shallow reefs .Bait galore. Spend some time on the bait and you will be rewarded.
