Greetings from the crew aboard Marlin My Darlin! February has proven to be an exceptional month for fishing in Fort Lauderdale, thanks to favorable weather and thrilling catches.
**Sailfish Migration and Offshore Action** The sailfish migration is in full swing, creating exciting opportunities for anglers. Alongside sailfish, we’ve seen a good presence of mahi-mahi, blackfin tuna, and even a few large trophy sharks. Late afternoons have become prime time as we roll along the reef: blackfin tuna have been biting enthusiastically, with some wahoo making appearances. However, Bonitas and King mackerels have been less active recently. Kite fishing has been a rewarding method when the conditions are right, bringing in impressive catches like sailfish, larger blackfin tuna, mahi-mahi, and even the occasional large shark. Conversely, offshore mahi-mahi fishing has slowed down a bit, with fewer weed lines or floating debris, which typically helps to attract these fish along with wahoo.
**Bottom Fishing and Swordfish Success** Bottom fishing has been absolutely stellar this month. We’ve had substantial catches of mutton snappers and even snagged a few genuine reds, with Amberjacks and small snowy groupers adding to the diversity. If you’re up for a challenge, our offshore swordfish expeditions have been outstanding. We’ve encountered several large swordfish, weighing between 300 and 400 pounds, as well as some smaller ones ranging from 50 to 80 pounds. This adventurous fishing is done using electric reels in depths of 2000 feet. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s a pursuit we deeply enjoy and excel at. **February’s Wrap-Up and How to Join Us** Overall, February has been a tremendous month for fishing, and the outlook remains promising as we move into the latter half of the month.
